Issues Under Fire: Obama/US Will Be Challenged At The G-20 Sumit Like Never Before

With the world’s major economies meeting at the G-20 this week charged with finding a solution to the impending global depression, President Barack Obama will be challenged to convince participants that the United States deserves to continue to lead the way.

A skilled speaker with charm, charisma and a winning smile will help President Obama immensely, but when the world begins to examine the backdrop from which he has to work, they will be more than willing to press for international safeguards as they see fit and not necessarily what the United States brings to the table. President Obama did not just inherit a $trillion plus deficit, a war in Iraq, a war in Afghanistan and a third border war percolating with Mexico from the Bush W. administration. He also inherited a systemically corrupt and woefully inept congress that has long over stayed their welcome and long outlived their usefulness.

The President will face push back from France and Germany over more regulation and less stimulation along with the Chinese and Russians. The President will be faced with private accusations of the US being the catalyst for the World’s financial crisis and he will have little ammunition to fight back with. Our congress has shown over the last thirty years that they have been more than complicit in the downward spiral of the world’s net worth as they have failed to provide and maintain adequate controls, regulation and oversight to keep the US economy on sound ground.

If it is true that the world has always looked to America’s political and business leadership as a model to follow, then we must admit we have failed the world miserably. It is bad enough that Congress has failed to deliver an affordable healthcare plan for its citizenry after decades of Bull-Sh*t debates on the floor of the House and the Senate, but it is just as horrid this same Congress have stood by and let the vast majority of middleclass jobs disappear from communities only to resurface in China, India Mexico Japan Indonesia among others.

From education to immigration, our congress has done nothing to make this country stronger, smarter or safer. Our Congress has funded many so called wars over the last few decades, but we have lost them all. The war against drugs, the war against poverty, the war against terror, you name it, we lost it. The only war the US government has won in the last forty years is the war against the middleclass.

If those that have observed America as closely as we have over the last ten years, they will likely see that the American Ponzi style economics was allowed to flourish with the passing of the Gramm-Leach-Bliey Act. We have watched our congress allow credit card companies rape our wallets, we have also watched congress cut off remedies to financial relief by rewriting the bankruptcy laws to favor big business. We have seen a congress in the last eight years shirk their duties of holding the Bush administration’s feet to the fire by requiring undisputable proof before taking the nation to an unjust war. We have watched congress allow our rights of privacy to be eroded. We watched our congress allow torture in the name of “homeland security.” And worst of all, we have watched this latest congress throw billions of very hard earned taxpayer dollars around wildly without a clue as to how it is being spent or whether it’s use will have the desired effect before the entire economy collapses.

If the rest of the world is seeing what we are seeing; a congress largely made up of lame lawyers who fail to understand the basic principals of risk managements, limiting exposure and how to mitigate damages when things screw up, then we think our President is in for a rude awakening at this G-20 meeting. RetroVision Media Reviews and Recommends Miss Evers' Boys

Miss Evers Boys by David Feldshuh, a shameful tale in American history that can still garner a tear laced with mild anger and regret, opened to an appreciative crowd of theatergoers this weekend past.

Under the extraordinarily sensitive direction of Melanie Moyer Williams, Mr. Feldshuhs play chronicles the demise of four Black men among the hundreds of African American males suckered into a US government guinea pig program. Designed to examine the short and long term effects of syphilis left untreated, this story of the 40-year Tuskegee experiment is arguably the most infamous biomedical research study in US history.

With a handpicked cast of accomplished actors, this production was more of an event than the many run of the mill theatrical performances, masquerading as quality theatre weve seen as of late. Led by Neddra McClyde (Miss Evers) a rare talent capable of crying real tears on demand, she captures the heart and spirit of Nurse Evers inner struggle, to fulfill her duty as an obedient professional of the times, while trying to assuage the growing concerns of the more headstrong lab rats.

One can almost personally feel the pain and anguish, the good nurse is living with year after year, as she bares witness to and responsibility for the eventual deaths and crippling of the very men shed convinced she was aiding. Torn between doing the right thing for her people and doing the right thing for those in her immediate care has Nurse Evers twisting a knife in her own heart for decades.

The set is simple but imaginative, the cast is small but excellent, the theater space is sparse but more than adequate and the story is strong, lasting and relevant to this very day. Based on this and previous efforts, we think the Red Fern Theatre Company is a force to be reckoned with in New York Citys innovative theater. What else can we say; this is Black Box theatre at its very best.

Issues Under Fire: Congressional Outrage Is A Lot of Bull

At the risk of being called cynics we think the outrage congressional leaders are displaying for the cameras and the public over the AIG bonus scandal is a bit overblown and disingenuous. While there is no doubt the AIG executive and others are thieving from the American taxpayers, the fact is, they always have. They have always been doing it, because they have always been enabled by our elected officials in congress.

We should not be surprised when we put billions and trillions of dollars in the hands of so few and then find that they have broken off a nice chunk for themselves. That is type of behavior is to be expected. It is the type of behavior that will only get worse if allowed to go on too long unchecked.

All the attention to this travesty is being focused on Wall Street when equal villains in this dustup is a congress that consistently find themselves out foxed by the people they’re responsible for protecting the American taxpayer from. It is congress that keeps forking over the taxpayer’s money without reading the fine print, or worse not asking where the fine print is and what the fine means. It was the congressional leadership that found out in a meeting with Henry Paulson that the financial sky was falling.

At the onset of this madness, according to congress, they had no idea how bad things were. Most admitted they had no idea what credit default swaps were or any of the other exotic financial instruments being floated around the world. The only thing they knew for sure was they had to do something and it had to be done fast. And willy nilly, the dumb asses passed the TARP bill without even bothering to ask the receiving financial institutions how they intended to use it for the betterment of the economy. It appears the Wall Street huckster assisted by Wall Street insider and Bush W’s. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson got the better of both sides of congress by leaving them nothing but a lot of questions and a lot of outrage.

And speaking of that congressional outrage, we think one could make a very credible argument here that they are doing their very best not to look stupid to the taxpayer . This so called bipartisan outrage in our opinion is an act to cover the fact that they were saps and suckers who failed to ask all the right questions when those questions needed to be asked. These congressional phonies are doing all they can to deflect the public from examining their irresponsible and irrational approach to this financial emergency. If these glorified ceremonial seat warmers would have kept themselves abreast of the world’s changing financial structure and all of its inner workings, they would have had at least a clue when the economy was showing signs of stress fifteen months ago.

No, these idiots America is relying upon to restore confidence and credibility to the nation and the world at large, could almost seem laughable were the circumstances not so dire. We find it amazing that congress is enjoying the approval ratings they are getting considering how utterly dumbfounded they appear the majority of the time. It is little wonder that the Chinese are now publicly questioning whether America can insure their investments going forward. If Chinese are watching the performance of those in Washington with the same critical eye we are, America is lucky there hasn’t been a run on the Treasury already.

But for the easily fooled and cajoled, never fear, there will be another round of show hearings this week. Congressional leaders will scream and perform for the cameras as they say what they think you would say if you had the ear of Edward Liddy for five minutes. Then everybody will break for lunch and chit chat before they are called for their cable news appearances. Meanwhile, Mr. Liddy will slip back into obscurity and lay low until the heat can be turned up on somebody else. Don’t believe us, just watch and see for your self. We dare you! Issues Under Fire: No Mr. President, We Don't See Any Sound Aspect To The US Economy

No Mr. President, we fundamentally disagree that there are any fundamentally sound aspects to the US economy; least of all the American Worker. While it is true, the American workers are the hardest working productive and innovative; the pool from which to draw from is dwindling daily. One can only realistically consider the American workforce a fundamentally sound aspect, if the American workforce is gainfully employed with adequate health benefits in significant numbers.

In our opinion, because the American worker and consumer are one in the same, when one is not working, one is not consuming. We are not buying homes, cars, clothing, eating out, going on vacations, planning parties and buying gifts. Big and small businesses are not investing in equipment, purchasing and or renting office space, leasing cars and taking as many business trips. Cities and states are in a similar circumstance or worse.

It is the aforementioned fundamentals that determine the soundness of any economy. In our opinion, happy talk from the White House will have at best, a minuscule impact on the nation’s level of confidence. The reality will resurface the moment the next month’s unemployment numbers are revealed.

This weekend, the President’s team of talking heads hit the airwaves with a too obvious concerted effort to assure the world that the US economy would survive this current financial crisis. This apparently was necessary to respond to the Chinese very public query of America as a continued worthy credit risk. On Friday the New York Times reported, “Chinese prime minister, Wen Jiabao, spoke in unusually blunt terms on Friday about the “safety” of China’s $1 trillion investment in American government debt, the world’s largest such holding, and urged the Obama administration to offer assurances that the securities would maintain their value.

Perhaps the administration knew the Chinese and other investors were getting nervous about how America was handling or not handling the crisis. Maybe Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton’s public assurances to China that its American holdings remained a reliable investment weren’t all that assuring. Maybe President Obama felt a need to go out on a limb to assure holders of American IOUs that their money was still safe with us. Maybe that is why suddenly Citi Group reported they had operated at a profit the first two months of this year. We also got positive news from Bank of America, General Electric and yes as strange as it may seem, General Motors had uplifting news.

This all sounds good, but it all sounds very short termed. For all of the reasons we have cited above, this country will not be fundamentally sound until America can field a healthy and educationally competitive, workforce, with a totally reconfigured mindset on consumerism versus personal savings. When this and only this has been achieved, one will see lending and spending for homes, business investments, green cars and all other goods and services pick up. Anything short of these measures will simply continue the slow but certain decline of America as a super power. We project conservatively a ten year cycle before America will find its footing. But that is depends upon three major factors.

A. Will the country have the patients to wait the ten years it will take to realize the expected results?

B. Will Congress be able to get beyond the partisan Blue Vs Red state conservative Vs liberal crap?

C. Will America be willing to let the generation responsible for digging this whole be sacrificed for the benefit of our grand children?

D. Will our creditors be able to wait ten years for America to be whole again? This is the biggest unknown of them all because China and others have their own concerns that may need to be address in the short term and that could negatively impact their continued trust in us.

RetroVision Media Reviews Red Haired Thomas

Red Haired Thomas, a production of the West Village’s SoHo Think Tank, played to what seemed to be an eager group of theatre reviewers and critics at the Ohio Theatre Sunday last. I too looked forward to an evening of lighthearted, entertaining, storytelling based upon the publicist’s inviting description of the tale to be told.

“"Professional gambler Cliff has got it bad. His daughter doesn’t need him, his wife might leave him, and his newspaper vender Iftikhar, whose mother country is at war, just might kill him. Witness Cliff's darkly comic, spiraling descent into a paranoid mythology of power-point presentations, rolls of quarters and hostage videos. Can our migraine-plagued redheaded founding father Thomas Jefferson save the day? Enter with caution into a desperation-filled dreamscape, where the sanest inhabitant may be Thomas Jefferson. (With songs.)"

If you read the above and thought to yourself; this looks like a great way to spend an overcast Sunday evening, after a margarita, some chips and salsa with a side of guacamole, you’d be well within your rights to be disappointed when the press release is precisely what appears on the stage, yet the actual performance falls horrible short of your expectations.

With wonderment and confusion, I could not comprehend why it was so difficult to make a connection with the characters; especially when considering how talented and believable the cast was. With Alan Benditt (Thomas Jefferson) approaching his role with a perfect pitch of wry/dry wit, his contribution helped tremendously in settling down the ever moving target of the storyline.

Then, there was Danny Beiruti (Iftikhar) playing the classically stereotypical, brusque pain in the ass New York street merchant so well, that even I was moved to want to see the protagonist give him a swift kick in the ass. When considering the energy Peter Sprague (Cliff) brought to the stage, the surprising vocal talents of Danielle Skraastad (Marissa) and the painfully precociousness perfectly injected into the role of (Abby) by Nicole Raphael, it is difficult to fathom why this production seemed so lost. But that is exactly what I felt like after the 80 minute performance concluded.

While I must confess, I did find cause to laugh and giggle from time to time, this show in short, went right over my head. Even more of a shame, is the fact that the Ohio Theatre may be forced to close their doors soon due to new ownership. It would have been great if they could have gone out with a bang and not with a dud.

RetroVision Media Presents The Tyrant’s Daughter

Ronald Howard stars in the classic episode of arguably the best detective of all time. Here is a bit of trivia about Ronald Howard that might be of interest: His chief claim to fame is this television portrayal of Sherlock Holmes in the series "Sherlock Holmes" (1954), in which Howard Marion-Crawford played Dr. Watson. Boyishly handsome with a pleasant demeanor, Howard continued in film and television until the mid-1970s; however, he never caught on with audiences as well as his father had, prompting him to put aside his acting career to run an art gallery. Issues Under Fire: Barack Obama Is Finding Good Help Is Hard To Find

As President Obama continues to amaze his critics for being able to retain the nation’s patients and admiration during these financially tumultuous times, we think some of the reasons are rather simple. The country is well aware that he had nothing to do with the current state of the nation, as he spent the least amount of time in politics of all the choices America had before them during the race for the White House.

Another reason the President is enjoying the people’s support is that the Republicans have not been successful at rewriting the history of the Bush W. administration; that will take at least five years to accomplish. Still another reason is that President Obama inherited a bunch of old dogs in congress that has great difficulty learning new tricks. With the nation literally hanging on to an ever increasingly fraying lifeline, the dumb bastards in congress still can’t put country first ahead of their own need to feed on pork.

Since the economy is shedding jobs at an unprecedented rate, there are more people with time on their hands to pay closer attention to what is really going on. The American public can see that both Democrats and Republicans have let this country fall into disarray while they sold their votes and principles to the highest bidding lobbyist. These are all the obvious explanations for why the President is getting the well deserved slack he needs to press forward with plans, initiatives and radical reforms to change the direction of the country.

But, there is another more subtle possibility the President is riding a wave of support from the politically astute. Many are beginning to recognize that the President is having a difficult time finding good help. While key positions have been filled on the surface, the deputy positions are taking longer than the nation’s circumstance can afford to wait for. The president has had embarrassment after embarrassment when nominating someone for a cabinet post only to find they have major issues in their personal and or private lives.

Case in point: Adolfo Carrion, former Bronx Borough President here in New York City, picked to head up the White House Office of Urban Affairs, a newly created position to focus federal investments in cities. Mr. Carrion’s primary concern is job creation, housing and ensuring that federal money for urban America is effectively spent.

Unfortunately for President Obama, Mr. Carrion has been the subject of a number of press investigations linking the new Urban Czar to serious Pay-to-Play deals. While the local press use more polite language to describe Mr. Carrion’s alleged activities, we are calling it for what it looks like; playing the flunky, stooge and a tool for big business and wealthy special interest groups. Mr. Carrion is being accused for the same sh*t that Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska was convicted for. He is reported to have had $ 32,000.00 worth of work done on his home without any compensation changing hands, save for the approval of a major building request by the very same entity that hooked up his house.

There are more stories just like that mentioned above springing up all around Mr. Carrion. After putting off the dogged inquires of the NY Daily News among others, Mr. Carrion finally admitted that the work was done without payment, but the issue was going to be rectified in short order. The only problem for Mr. Carrion is; the work was done two years ago.

Even without considering the blatant conflict of interest that stares anyone with half a brain in the face; it is the record of few accomplishments Mr. Carrion carries to Washington for his new job.According to the New York Times, Carrion had promised jobs, a new hotel and convention complex and high school for sports related careers if the new Yankee Stadium was allowed to be built of land that was currently used for neighborhood parks. Much to the chagrin of the community, the Yankees got what they wanted, but the community got the shaft. If this is the record Mr. Carrion has to stand on, we suggest he stands downwind because New Yorkers thinks it stinks.

If only half the accusations of a growing number of reputable media outlets are reporting are true, then it appears Mr. Carrion is just another political hack looking to have his palms greased while he tries to advance and enhance his career opportunities. In a position like this, an easily corruptible, flunky tool-like stooge could get rich and help his puppet masters get even richer at the taxpayers expense.

So when the pollsters report the continued high levels of support the President is able to maintain during these challenging times, it is because the people understand what he has to work with. Click here for the podcast

Issues Under Fire: President Obama's Plan For Afghanistan

As President Obama continue to take on the overwhelming challenges of the nation’s economic woes while fending off criticism by financial wizards Warren Buffet and Jack Welch, he still has major international issues that must be confronted daily. With a slow but steady build up of military muscle in Afghanistan despite everyone’s acknowledgement that the Taliban has grown too big to beat, the President has to tread very carefully so as to not allow him self unwittingly suckered into the 21st century’s version of Vietnam.

Cleary, we need a strategy that will time stamp the American presence in Afghanistan with an expiration date. While negotiating with a terrorist organization on the surface seems dangerously close to admitting we don’t have the military strength, world support or the money to fight a long protracted battle, there is really few options left to consider.

The so called generals on the ground have advised the President that similar tactics were used in Iraq to quell the insurgency. After convincing Sunni sheikhs that al-Qaeda was a common enemy, we got their buy in to the concept; thereby making operations far more difficult for the troublemakers and their supporters to pull off and eventually the high levels of violence fell to a manageable measure.

Still, there is the lingering aftertaste of less than success that leaves many Americans disappointed. From a human rights standpoint, we would be leaving millions of women and girls to a merciless band of fanatics practicing the strictest interpretation of Islamic Sharia law ever seen in the Muslim world. These are the guys that throw acid on women for showing to much skin, these are the guys that will burn down schools, these are the guys the will even forbid clapping during sporting events, kite flying, or just trimming ones own beard. The Taliban even closed down all the damn movie theaters. Let’s face it; these ain’t exactly fun loving fellows.

But this is what President Obama has to contend with; an unrelenting stream of international and domestic fires raging on all fronts. Any one of the problems Barack Obama has before him from would be more than a full plate for a complete first term. From dealing with the economy and getting Americans back to work, to reforming healthcare, to fixing the banking system, to upgrading education, to taking the country green; the president has to not only find short and long term solutions while fighting a grouchy, contentious and contrary GOP, but they all have to be done immediately. We ask ourselves daily, why the hell did Barack Obama want this thankless job? Click here for the podcast.

Issues Under Fire: The Boomers Golden Years are Going To Be Bronze

In an effort to remain consistent yet still be flexible enough to modify our positions on the economy, we would like to offer the following for your opinion. We have stated for nine or months that the US economy was headed for a near total collapse. We stand by that statement no matter how much we support President Obama and all of the efforts he is making to ease the downward spiral.

On the other hand, upon a careful review of the President’s plans and projections, it appears there is a ray of hope. There is a possibility that the country has a strong chance of a full recovery. However, the big and unfortunately unavoidable problem is that the largest group that will be most negatively impacted is the baby boomers. Yes my friends, the golden years of the sixties radicals and their children and going to be bronze.

While the stimulus package is being sold to the public as a means to fix address the critical ills of the economy and it will it time, the big question is, how much time will it take? The way we see things, this economy will need at the very least, a decade or more before we realize the dividends of this administration. If you are 58-63 years old or older and planning for a comfortable, worry free retirement anytime soon you are going to be in for a real shocker.

The Baby boomers is the group, that for years have been told that social security was going broke and Medicare was going to a lousy choice to rely upon for your healthcare. Yet we did nothing to change our course. We all saw the crash of the American economy coming, but we just assumed some really smart person or persons would have an answer before things got really bad; after all this is America.

Unfortunately, this over self-indulgent, materialistic, lazy, shortsighted, and fat consumer oriented generation might have simply lived long enough to see their bills come due. We are going to have to pay the health bill for not eating right, not exercising regularly, drinking too much, doing too many drugs for too long and living too stressful a lifestyle. We are going to pay big-time for backing into retirement age flat broke. As a result, we are going to be forced to rely on a less than adequately trained generation x and y to assist us because we paid more attention to ourselves and not enough to those following behind us. Let’s face it, our kids are stupid and we are responsible for that too.

This is pay back time folks and the bill is huge. There is no getting around it, we are going to suffer the consequences of everything we should have done, but didn’t. We are going to pay dearly for not developing alternative sources of energy when oil prices inevitable hit record highs again. Many are already losing their homes because they wanted to live large at the expense of saving for a rainy day. Sure, an argument can be made for those that go snookered, but the broader picture is rooted in a cultural dynamic that was allowed to fester far too long.

Now that we finally have a President willing to open the books, layout the truth and begin to reset the country’s mindset, the ugly facts remains, that the boomers are going to be forced accept responsibility for their decades of greed and apathy. These Boomers are going to have to realize that they are the ones that are going to be left behind. It was the Boomers and their kids that let this happen and it is fitting that they pay the price.

All of what Barack Obama is trying to accomplish is workable and necessary, but can not be counted on to yield measurable results for the very near future. His proposals for investment in education reform, healthcare reform and energy innovation are things that will come to fruition in 10-15 years if we start now. There is no way to snap a finger and have a healthy productive economy and workforce when things were allowed to get this bad.

We are a generation and a half behind in education, we are a full two generations away from having a reasonably fit society and maybe two generations away from reliance on foreign energy sources. And perhaps a generation, maybe less if we’re lucky before the markets recover the trillions of personal wealth that was lost over the last 18 months. The bottom-line here is, the Boomers have gone bust. Click here for the podcast.

Barack Obama- State of the Nation Address (Hip-Hop Interpretation)

Yo ... You have to check this out!

And don't forget to share

RetroVision Media Highly Recommends Bill Connington's Zombie

Quiet, unassuming, nondescript, non-threatening, polite and even charming at times is the general assessment of the serial killer next door. Just prior to the BREAKING news reports of his capture, many friends family and neighbors would swear, that while the culprit may have kept to himself a lot, never in a million years would they have guess little Jeffery was capable of such madness.

Bill Connington’s Zombie, adapted from Joyce Carol Oates’ novella encapsulates the dangerous conflicting diametric of a sexual deviant’s desires and his ability to appear like any other Joe in the community.
Connington bridges that great mental divide in his riveting solo performance, striking an eerie balance between, befriend or beware.

This is a tale of how a twisted childhood develops unabated into a monster, seeking societal throwaways to feed an insatiable fetish for hard pectorals and supple dispositions. With a cruel yet cool cunning, our selfish, demented flesh stalker feeds his thrust for warm bodies to quiet his craving for control. The story takes the audience on a journey through the tragic existence of Quentin P.

We are taken into a court room and witness a slap on the wrist for his activities with a twelve year old boy. We visit with Quentin P in group therapy as he takes his meds. We visit local bars for young, sexually adventurous men. We take late night trolls with Quentin P in search of male meat in dark places. We are taken to Quentin P’s lair where his victims meet his ice pick. Thankfully and mercifully, we eventually spend time in the recreation room of a prison where Quentin P’s story fades from the public’s view. But as history reminds us daily, the lull from madness is only temporary; for another of Quentin P’s evil ilk will surly takes his place amongst us soon.

Issues Under Fire: Senator Ted Kaufman Says; Lets Get The Bastards

Today is one of those rare occasions where the hot issues suggested by the team, our audience and the Cool Guy’s daily preparation far exceeded our ability to stay within the limits of 850 words or less. However, fear not as we have covered all requests within this podcast.

Issue one:

Ted Kaufman (D) Delaware introduces a bill that would beef up spending on the prosecution of white collar crime in order to punish Wall Street cheats. This bipartisan legislation will get more FBI agents trained and on the job of investigating fraudulent activities. “The men and women who duped would-b home owners, who defrauded the American investor, who contributed to an economic crisis of historic proportions, need to be identified, prosecuted, convicted and thrown in jail.” We like this man!

Issues two:

Senator Pat Leahy, Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee ponders the direction lawmakers should take when considering investigating the Bush administration’s policies on detention and interrogations.

The options Sen. Leahy is considering is setting up a so called “Truth Commission” to determine if laws were broken by top levels officials in their efforts to protect the nation, or simply cut to the chase by simply aggressively criminally prosecuting everyone and anyone who stepped over the legal limits. There is of course a third option that no self-respecting liberal will tolerate; doing nothing at all.

The blaring question we did not address in Issues two, is what is Barack Obama’s position on going after Bush for his handling the war on terror and why do we still have to ask at this point. So far President Obama seems to be willing to look to the future and not the past, but the legal scholars we have consulted report President Obama may not have the luxury of not doing anything. More on this Monday

Issues three:

Senator Carl Levin Chairman of the Governmental Subcommittee on Investigations grilled Mark Branson, Chief Financial Officer for UBS over their complicity in assisting US citizens and expatriates defraud the government through tax evasion schemes and scams. After admitting their guilt and paying a reported $780 million to settle federal claims, the Swiss bank has also decided they’d no longer take anymore business of this nature for the US.

UBS and the Swiss government still refuse to give the IRS the names of the 47,000 depositors they are protecting, save for a meager 250-300 to date. Additionally, Mr. Branson refused to say if other Swiss banks are providing the same type of financial protection to Americans or even acknowledge other countries that people can park their cash to escape their tax liabilities.

Issues four:

This hot issue brings us full circle, as we chat about Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s call for international banking regulations to be developed to provide for proper accountability and transparency. This according to Brown will put an end to excesses and will be apply to all banks everywhere at all times.

For those that have followed this blog will notice a running theme in our liberal reporting/commentating/writings. We have been trying to identify who are the people that have been screwing us. We call them THEY for lack of a better word. We think we are getting closer to solving the mystery but not close enough to indicate anymore than clues. After listening to today’s podcast may you’ll have a clue too.

Issues Under Fire: Can America Afford The Continued Funding of Israeli Millitary Escapades

Hillary Clinton continues her Mid-East trip to once again try to kick start a process towards settling the ongoing conflict between the Israelis and the Palestinians. The Obama administration has been sending subtle signals that business as usual may change in order to make progress towards a real solution that both the warring parties can live with.

Mrs. Clinton will have a tightrope to walk with the Israelis as she may have to deliver a sobering message to Big Bad Benjamin Netanyahu that a new sheriff is in town. Secretary Clinton will have to make the Israelis understand that the United States must embark on a new strategy of leveling the playing field during negotiations to present a more balanced image than has been in the past.

This could prove difficult as the entire US Congress has been compromised by campaign donation and other perks provided by special interest groups over the years for their unyielding support for Israel. Since Obama is a relative newcomer and not nearly as tainted as the rest of America’s political leadership, he has the least favors to honor and can approach this festering problem with clean hands.

Even thought Israel is facing an uncertain economic future along with the rest of the world, the US is falling faster than anybody thus far and a strong argument can be made for trimming the aid the Israelis receive from America to offset our budget outlays. With an annual gift of $3 billion per year, every year, along with the latest $900 million in pledged aid to the Palestinians to clean up the aftermath of Israel’s war in Gaza, the tab for Israel’s security may be seen as too much for us to afford right now.

If one did a cost benefit analysis of how the Israelis are spending the cash they get from America, it is hard to see how it is making them any safer, notwithstanding how little it does to increase the safety and well being of Americans. After the madness in Lebanon during the summer of 2006 and this latest insanity in Gaza, it appears the American taxpayer is not only picking up the pieces of Israeli aggressions, but we also have to pick up the tab for them as well.

If one takes a close look at the drug wars occurring on the southern borders of this country and the lack of border enforcement to deal with Mexican drug lords, we’re sure Americans would want to balance security funding for Israel’s citizen more equitability with its own. America simply can’t afford to green light every military action the Israelis want support for without first considering the end result. And thus far, the end result of the Israeli initiated military actions have been failures. They have failed to stop the rockets from being launched against them, they have failed to get Cpl. Gilad Shalit back, they and they have failed to close down all the tunnels they claim Hamas is using to smuggle weapons through.

From our perspective, the Israelis have racked up a lot of kills and injured but have achieved few of their stated goals and objectives. It is time for a new, fresh and honest approach and not the same old AIPAC funded rhetoric Click here for the podcast

Issues Under Fire: The Rush Limbaugh Revolt, Or Is Rush Limbaugh Just Revolting

Rush Limbaugh, dressed in all black, an obvious but failed attempt to camouflage his every increasing girth, stood before a cheering crowd of angry, political red meat starved carnivore partisans and delivered a secessionist styled rant that heated up the chattering cable networks the entire weekend. Rush, the conservative’s conservative call upon his dwindling minions to do what ever it takes to strike a blow against the Obama administration’s efforts to revive the nation’s economy.

Taking the scorched earth policy, the Republicans are embarking upon a strategy of sitting on the sidelines and criticizing the Obama administration’s policies, proposals, solutions and related actions, while offering little if any of their own. Since they have apparently realized what most leading economist are quietly acknowledging; the economy is in a near irreversible downward spiral, they can continue their attacks with confidence that no matter what the Democrats try to do, they’ll be met with failure in the log term. The Republicans will simply place themselves in the position of being able to tout we told you so for the 2010 elections.

In our opinion, this slimy underhanded and demented “The South Shall Rise Again” appeal to the hard right wing thinkers of the Republican Party will resonate deeply and resurrect the worst of America. At a time when the world is clearly looking to the United States to repair the damage to the world’s economy; damage we caused, and show leadership once again, the hard Right Wing is using this crisis to stage a trailer trash park revolution.

While the hard Right is still strongest in the South and always will be, they can gain steam as the economy continues to flounder. As Americans keep losing their jobs health care, homes and cars to bankruptcy courts and the repossession agencies, the more angry people are going to get. When the spring months are upon us and a new batch of college grads hit the shrinking job market, there are going to be a lot of hungry, desperate and idol folks lurking about.

With a voice like Rush Limbaugh ready and willing to incite the hopeless masses to demonstrate their frustrations at the lack of progress; progress the Republicans already knew would never be possible, they could infect Americans with the same insanity Hitler used to galvanize Nazi Germany just prior to WW2. This all may sound a bit extreme, but the parallels are frightening.

In all honesty, we have stated for nearly a year now that the American economy was in a perilous state and in all likelihood the country would collapse. We feared openly, that what our business leaders were allowed to do would crash the world’s economy, leading to a global economic contraction that would take two full decades to recover from.

We have said consistently that, while the election of Barack Obama was exactly what this country needed at its lowest point in recent American history, it and of it self would do little to change our all but certain demise. Despite our unyielding support for the Obama administration, we must yield to the fundamental truth that this country has been severely crippled and nobody to date has a crutch to help us lean upon.

President Obama was elected for one primary reason, and that was his ability to inspire hope; and he has performed admirably living up to his campaign slogans and promises alike. But considering the circumstances, this leaves the door wide open for the mean, evil and spiteful amongst us, to create an atmosphere of dog eat dog divisiveness.

These times are ripe for the seeding of finger pointing, stirring up social unrest, hate and finding scapegoats. It is times like these when arguments against Affirmative Actions gets louder, topics like immigrations gets more play and don’t mess with the 2nd Amendment chatter makes its way to the fore. And don’t be surprised to hear the words, freedom and liberty liberally used by the hard Right conservatives to bolster their otherwise weak positions.

We are living in very dangerous times and we must be as careful as we are vigilant to recognize the voices of political opportunist spewing vile non-sense; for pigs like Rush Limbaugh are simply trying to create chaos at the nation’s expense for their benefit. Click here for the podcast.
